Nobody asked me, but --
. . .Little old Greenville, a few miles east of Tallahassee on Route 90, can claim Ray Charles as one of its own. Faye Dunaway is another Greenville product.
. . .The most puerile, stupid, waste of time program on TV is something called "Imus in the Morning," which features a former drunk and drug addict backed up by the greatest collection of no-talent folks in the history of broadcasting.
. . .What crust! Jerry Ford, the only person ever to serve as president who was not elected, has a state funeral planned (Reagan's cost $10 million), and also has a presidential library.
. . .Did you ever have the feeling you were used and then just thrown away? Hmmmm...
. . .What is disturbing is the "cry wolf" alarms about terrorist attacks that never materialize put out by Tom Ridge (the living embodiment of proof that anyone can get into Harvard). Any time the desire to steal headlines or divert attention is wanted, Ridge comes forth with his cry wolf warnings.
. . .This newspaper is now on-line at clearwatergazette.com and has learned its biggest reader is Pinellas County's daily newspaper.
. . .Wish I had written this dep't. -- Old songs are more than tunes; they are little houses in which our hearts once lived.
. . .Is there any lower job on the totem pole than that of writing parking tickets? Absolutely no skill involved; absolutely no talent required.
. . .I am totally hung up on this one -- should I be amazed or amused? Is or is not the fact that the new Clearwater library has only 26 parking spaces for the public a serious issue or not? Word from one quarter is that this is a situation that is not serious. Can you believe that?
. . .The British Open, when played on courses like the disaster area at Troon, makes a travesty of golf. It would be like playing the World Series on a rock strewn and pitted field. As for Troon, what a dump. No wonder the Scots are such a dismal and dour lot. As for the B.O., it is the worst of all the majors and none of the golfers likes playing in it.
. . .One local politician beams with pride over his burg's "rat out your neighbor" policy. The goal of the program is craven, to get money. Shades of Adolf and Josef.
. . .It appears it might be time for the Clearwater City Council -- given all the failures, screw-ups, internal strife -- to take a serious look at how the city is being run. If the council is serious about its duties and responsibilities and the faith it owes the public, it is time to get serious and take a serious look.
. . .Go figure -- one local pol is keeping material that one would think is standard fare for a resume a closely guarded secret.
. . .What clowns the military are. Gen. Peter Schoomaker, Army chief of staff on TV recently for a briefing delivered from the Pentagon, rigged out in combat fatigues. What did he do, pull those nice pressed fatigues out of the closet in his office, shrug out of his Class A unie and go down to brief the press?
. . .If there is such a need for money in Belleair Beach, which was the reason given for the ill-fated marina project (that would have resulted in a net loss of tax money over the long run), why not hire the Sheriff's Office to do the policing and save $240,000 a year? As of early July, the BBPD was in a mess anyway; two officers (one-third of the force) had bailed out.
. . .The best laid plans etc. -- Looks like the ploy in Indian Rocks Beach (should that be Native American Rocks Beach to conform to strict PC?) to keep power in the hands of one faction has backfired. Now they are all up a tree over a definition of intensity -- may take a court to figure this one out.
