Nobody asked me, but --
. . .Is there ever a time when WEDU is not holding a fund drive?
. . .Belleair Beach is becoming known as the village where non-residents decide key issues. It's getting a laugh all along the coast and those who prevailed are still high-fiving over it. What a hoot!
. . .What is all this finger pointing to the sky when a great play is made or victory achieved? Does anyone really believe that God cares one way or the other about a sports exploit or outcome? C'mon...
. . .Everyone who stayed put in the second windstorm in the area September 26 suffered no bad effects. Most were asleep when the evacuation order came after midnight in the midst of total confusion by so-called "authorities."
. . .That lawyer in the Schiavo case who asserted before the court that "Catholics take the word of the Pope as supreme law. . . And to ignore it imperils the soul," could not have been more wrong. It is simply not true -- not in the slightest degree. If there is any "no factor" person on the planet, it is the Pope.
. . .It's amazing -- an idea gets imbedded in the public imagination and the next thing you know, it becomes fact. Such as the constant references to the "hurricanes" we have had recently. For the record, and in fact, there have been NO hurricanes here; there was some wind and rain on the first and last weekends of September.
. . .I'll go Pat Buchanan one better on the theme of "America for Americans" -- I say no baseball players allowed in the big leagues who are not American citizens. It might cut down on things like the chair throwing incident that severely injured a fan.
. . .Also, along those lines, to put the onus for responsibility on the fans -- no booze, no alcohol whatsoever allowed at sports events. They said smoking couldn't be stopped -- forbidding the sale of alcohol should be the next target.
. . .That bugle call you keep hearing them blow at the college football games on TV is not some inspiring message like "charge!" It is the prosaic "chow call" -- just thought you might like to know.
. . .One thing above all else is eminently clear -- Pinellas County takes responsibility for nothing. More on that later.
. . .Look for the inept Tom Ridge to be removed from Homeland Security boss job and replaced by the New York slickster, Rudy Giuliani.
. . .And whatever became of Marty Shelby?
. . .Why do these city and county hicogolorums perisist and insist on calling the taxpayers "customers"? Hey, they are the employers, the bosses, not customers.
. . .The word is that county property values have gone up 41 percent since 2000. At the same time, County Administrator Steve Spratt has cut the county budget each year. So, where's the money?
. . .Smiling John Morroni, a leading sachem from the County Commission, tried to make the case at Indian Rocks Beach recently that the beaches actually have five representatives on the county board. Sure, John....now how does that go again?
. . .Largo parks and rec is going to sponsor softball for the elderly -- a league for 60-plus players. "Provide your own gloves," advises the rec folks (who apparently have a population reduction program going here). Make sure you have an ambulance and sawbones handy, too, is my advice. Let's get real -- old folks shouldn't be making fools of themselves.
. . .Wonder how the great German composer, Richard Wagner, would feel knowing that his music is being used these days as background music for a toilet advertiser on TV?
. . .Sports officiating gets worse and worse. Florida lost to Tennessee because of a moron side judge, the Red Sox lost a key game to the Yankees because of a terribly bad blindman's call and the Redskins were victims of an extremely bad call. I no longer watch sports. I consider most games to be crooked and fixed.
