Clearwater, FL. With Easter bunnies and bonnets in wide array, spring was everywhere at the 35th annual Clearwater Community Woman's Club Daisy Award and Fashion Show. Not only were over 40 tables decorated with Easter bonnets, many of the attendees and members picked up on the theme and wore their most festive spring attire from head to toe. Pepper and Fine Thyme and the Bunny Ott Dancers entertained with all the old classic Spring tunes which included: Easter Parade and April Showers. Clearwater Mayor, Frank Hibbard and his lovely wife Teresa, were among the models for the fashions from Stein Mart. Dawn LaCross, fashion coordinator for Stein Mart, introduced the many new looks and trends for the spring and summer season. Club member Lynn McLaren, overall event chair, did an outstanding job along with Georgia Jensen, Fashion Show director and all the members of the event committee plus the many community sponsors who worked to make this event a success.
The high point of the afternoon was the awarding of the club's prestigious Daisy Award. Dee Davis presented this year's award to Jode Eye and Marie McClung, founders of Clothes to Kids. Davis stated, "Clothes to Kids fills a much needed service to area school age children. Research indicates that children perform at a higher level when they do not feel out of place or inadequate to their peers. Clothes to Kids has provided over 5,000 wardrobes to low income children in the past year." Since 2000, the Clearwater Community Woman's Club has donated over $50,000 to area nonprofit organizations and club charities from the money raised at their Spring fundraiser.. Club members are already busy planning their next big event "An Evening with the Authors" which will be held on November 17 at the Clearwater Main Library.
Over 5,500 hours of volunteer service were also performed this past year by members of the Clearwater Community Woman's Club, which is a part of the international General Federation of Woman's Clubs (GFWC), one of the largest and oldest women's volunteer organization in the world.
