CLEARWATER, Fla. - On Monday, May 8, one block of Coronado Drive between South Gulfview Boulevard and Devon Street, will be closed to northbound traffic for approximately two weeks. Coronado Drive will continue to be open for southbound traffic, and northbound traffic will be redirected to South Gulfview Boulevard. While relocating telecommunications utilities to accommodate the future Kiran Grand Resort & Spa, a 24-inch diameter drill bit used by a Verizon subcontractor got stuck in the trench.
To remove the equipment, Verizon subcontractors must make a cut approximately 20-feet long in the roadway, which necessitates the rerouting of northbound traffic. Coronado and Hamden drives will remain open for local northbound traffic. Other northbound travelers will be redirected from Coronado and Hamden drives to take Fifth Street to South Gulfview Boulevard and then continue north to the roundabout. Police officers will help direct traffic during peak travel times.
Verizon subcontractors are expected to take approximately two weeks to remove the equipment and continue the relocation so that all traffic lanes of Coronado Drive are open for Memorial Day weekend. The new underground facilities will include telephone, cable, and Internet lines for Knology, Bright House and Verizon. Verizon subcontractors are paying all costs incurred.
