CLEARWATER - Join actor/playwright J.D. Sutton as he brings Florida naturalist William Bartram to life at 2 p.m., Thursday, May 25, at the Clearwater East Library, 2251 Drew Street. The presentation is part of the Road Scholars program of the Florida Humanities Council. No registration is required for this free program.
Sutton will share tales of Bartram's adventures of encountering Seminole Indians, battling alligators and learning his awe at the beauty that was and is Florida.
In 1791, William Bartram's journals were published as Travels. The book went into several foreign editions and today is regarded as an American natural history classic and is praised for its vivid descriptions of Native American culture and of a land untouched by European hands. The Library of America recently added Travels to its published library of the works of great American authors.
