At the June 6 meeting of the Board of Directors of the Clearwater Beach Association, Jerry Wells and Todd Petrie from the Clearwater Utility Department explained the new, metered rates for reclaimed water. Among other things, they informed the CBA membership that the fixed rate, agreed to at the beginning of the process no longer applies.
On June 20, members and friends of the CBA journeyed by Jolly Trolley to Brighthouse Field to see a Threshers ball game from an air- conditioned suite. They enjoyed hamburgers, hot dogs, barbecue and all the trimmings. Plans are to have this opportunity for CBA membership again next year.
On June 22, a plaque was presented to Lt. Wayne Andrews, captain of the Clearwater Police Beach substation. The award was in appreciation of the great work by the Beach Police in handling the traffic during this year's Spring Break. This was given by the Clearwater Beach Association, the Sand Key Association and the Island Estates Association.
The CBA Board has determined that short term rentals are negatively impacting the quality of life on Clearwater Beach and urges that all members let our city counselors know that there is no room for mediation in the ongoing lawsuit, brought by landlords on the Beach. CBA Board member Jerry Murphy and his committee are working with the city on the potential trial process and code enforcement.
For next October 30, the CBA Board is planning a golf tournament at East Lake Woodlands Country Club. The tournament will benefit the Clearwater Beach association and the Sand Key Sailing Center. It will be a Scramble. Players will pay $125 ($500 for foursomes). Included will be the green fee, use of golf cart, a delux goodie bag, a golf shirt, and quality prizes. There will be a new car for a hole in one; prizes for closest to the pin and longest drive; a putting contest, box lunches, beverages on the course, dinner after the game with entertainment by G. David Howard, and a silent auction by Tedesco Sports Marketing.
The community is invited to participate. Reservations and checks made out to CBA & Sailing Center should be mailed to Clearwater Community Sailing Center, 1001 Gulf Boulevard, Clearwater, Florida 33767.
The next meeting of the Clearwater Beach Association will be at 6 p.m. on July 12, at the Clearwater Beach Recreation Center.
