CLEARWATER - Put on your poodle skirt, slick your hair back and get ready to rumble on Saturday, July 8, when the Clearwater Main Street Program throws a 1950s sock-hop at the Clearwater Main Library. Starting at 1 p.m., there will be dancers from Savoy South and free popcorn. At 2 p.m., get set for a free screening of that 1978 musical movie classic that takes you to the halls of Rydell High School in the era of classic rock and roll.
Attendees are encouraged to dress in 50s costume and brush up on their swing dancing before the show. A costume parade with prizes from downtown restaurants, and a free drawing that all attendees may enter, are among the treats. The Bookworm Café is providing free popcorn and will have sandwiches and beverages for sale. Admission to the event is free.
Produced by the Promotions Committee for Clearwater Main Street, in cooperation with the Clearwater Public Library and sponsored by the Downtown Development Board, this event is part of Matinees at the Main, a promotional series enlivening downtown.
