It's Easy Being Green at the Eco-Garden Conference

Some of the things that make gardeners smile - and wince - are on the schedule at the annual Eco-Garden Conference at Pinellas Extension, 12175 125th St. N., Largo, on Saturday, August 5. The conference is sponsored by Florida Yards & Neighborhoods and Pinellas County Extension.

From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., gardening experts will help you create more beautiful green spaces in your home. Protecting trees on your property during storm season, creating Florida-friendly landscaping, learning about creepy crawlies and tips on selecting healthy plants are topics on the agenda. Lunch, snacks and course materials are provided. Door-prize drawings are also on the schedule. County departments and other exhibitors will have materials available for attendees.

The Florida Yards & Neighborhoods program is a grant-funded partnership involving Tampa Bay Water, the Pinellas-Anclote River Basin Board of the Southwest Florida Water Management District and Pinellas County Government. It assists and guides residents to conserve water in the landscape and make positive changes in the environmental quality of their yards, neighborhoods and surrounding waterways.

Eco-Garden Conference registration is $20; Florida Botanical Gardens members pay $15. Reservations are suggested. Registration begins at 8:15 a.m. To register or for information, call (727) 582-2673,
