CLEARWATER - The Clearwater Marina received a pumpout boat from a state grant under the Clean Water Act through the Florida Department of Environmental Protection Agency. The pumpout boat collects sewage from boats docked behind citizen's homes and condos in Clearwater Harbor and is a free service that the city provides to boat owners.
Sewage has always been collected at the marina's pump-out stations located by each slip and at the fuel dock. The pumpout boat offers an additional way to collect excrement by pumping it into a 150-gallon holding tank under the deck and later pumping it into the city's sewage system. It is illegal to dump sewage into the water.
The state paid 75 percent ($30,750) and the city paid 25 percent ($10,250) for the boat.
Citizens can call the Marina to set up an appointment for this service, which is provided Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The service is available as often as needed. For more information, call (727) 462-6954.
