Largo Police Department Suspends Patrol Officer

The Largo Police Department has suspended one of their Patrol Officers for 40 hours after a review of a traffic crash investigation by the officer.

Officer Richard Gibson, age 48, a six-year veteran officer serving in the Patrol Division, was charged with violating department regulations as they pertain to the investigation of a traffic crash.

The incident occurred on June 24, 2006 and involved a hit and run crash resulting in injuries to three parties. The investigation was subsequently re-assigned to the Traffic Safety Unit, which completed the investigation. The investigation resulted in charging one individual with three counts of leaving the scene of an injury crash. The actions of Officer Gibson did not compromise the investigation, which has now been referred to the State Attorney's Office for adjudication.
