
Clearwater, Fla. Urith Fitzgerald was recently installed as the new president of the GFWC Clearwater Community Woman's Club (CCWC) at the Belleview Biltmore Country Club. Fitzgerald has been a CCWC club member since 1988 and a practicing attorney in Pinellas County for twenty years. Joining Fitzgerald on the new CCWC board are Jane East, First Vice President; Lynn McLaren, Second Vice President; Esther Miseory, Third Vice President; Nancy Hughes, Recording Secretary; Ann Crum, Corresponding Secretary; Marie Grein, Treasurer; and Edie Banks, Member at Large. In conducting the installation ceremony, Judy Lutz, past international President of The General Federation of Woman's Clubs, stated "Clearwater Community Woman's Club has a long history of service to the citizens of Clearwater. Our new board will help carry on this tradition of service as part of a world wide organization, founded in 1890, working with 1,000's of other GFWC clubs in all 50 states and more than 16 countries worldwide."
It was also announced that Ellie Lee, immediate CCWC Past President, would be the new director of District 14 in the Florida Federation of Women's Clubs (FFWC.) The eighteen GFWC-FFWC clubs' in Sarasota, Manatee and Pinellas County will fall under her capable leadership.
New members, Janet Tieman, Evelyn Thoubboron, Karla McLaren, Joyce Orebaugh, Barbara Gipson and Anne Farmer who have joined the club during the past year were also officially welcomed. Each new member was presented with a bouquet of daises, the clubs official flower, and a hand painted daisy club tote bag, designed and painted by long time club member Maggie Nichols.
Under the able leadership of Fitzgerald the club is off to another busy year with its first major fund raiser, the 14th annual An Evening with the Authors, on Friday, November 17th at the Clearwater Main Library. The funds raised will be donated to the Clearwater Library Foundation. The past fourteen years over $50,000 has been raised by the club for the Clearwater Library system.
