Cleveland Street Streetscape Update

provided by the City of Clearwater

Streetscape crews continue the installation of the 12-inch water main on the north side of Cleveland St. This week, trees, brick planters and the old decorative lighting fixtures will be removed from the right-of-way on the north side of the street in preparation for installation of water service lines. City officials are also working on providing alternative street lighting to keep the sidewalks safe during nighttime hours.

Motorists should note that in about a week traffic is expected to be rerouted to the south side of the roadway as crews concentrate their efforts on the north side.

Downtown pedestrians are urged to take advantage of new wire mesh trash cans that have been placed along the sidewalks and at street corners in an effort to minimize litter in the construction zone.

From Osceola Ave. west to the water, crews continue working on the installation of the large storm pipe. It has been connected to the seawall at the bluff and the temporary dam that previously surrounded it has been removed.

Downtown patrons are reminded that businesses remain open, and the Garden Avenue Garage is offering two hours of free parking. One-hour parking places are also available on Osceola Avenue from the Clearwater Main Library to the corner of Cleveland Street.

Free coffee will be offered at the next Streetscape Hard Hat Meeting, 8 a.m., Sept. 28, Constant Cravings, 516 Cleveland St. The discussion will include project updates and input from those affected by construction.
