Along Cleveland Street from Osceola Avenue to the bluff, sections of large concrete pipe await installation as construction crews work on a storm drain that will divert runoff from the street into Clearwater Harbor. The storm pipe is one of several infrastructure phases of the Streetscape project in addition to decorative sidewalks and other more visible improvements that are taking shape downtown. Removal of old sidewalk brick planters, trash receptacles, trees and street lights are evidence of preparations for the new sidewalks.
Motorists on Cleveland Street will soon be able to travel both ways between East and Garden avenues as crews complete the installation of an 8-inch water main on the south side of the street. Cleveland Street has been limited to a single westbound lane on the north side of the street while eastbound traffic has been routed around the work. Both lanes will be rerouted to the south side of the street.
Those seeking more detailed updates regarding the Streetscape project are invited to attend Hard Hat meetings the last Thursday of each month. Constant Cravings restaurant at 516 Cleveland St. will be the host site for the 8 a.m. September 28 meeting and will be offering free coffee for attendees. Hard Hat meeting details are posted along with other downtown construction information on the city's website at www.myclearwater.com/downtown.
Downtown patrons are reminded that all businesses remain open during Streetscape construction, and the Garden Avenue Garage is offering two hours of free parking. One-hour parking places are also available on Osceola Avenue from the Clearwater Main Library to the corner of Cleveland Street.
