BELLEAIR BLUFFS - Six items on the Belleair Bluffs City Commission agenda went by the boards Monday night when the meeting was cancelled because of a lack of a quorum.

Commissioners Bret Nelson, Dave Shimkus and Troy Krotz all scratched for the scheduled meeting.

Mayor Chris Arbutine, with only Commissioner Bob Russo present, opened the meeting, noted the absence of a quorum and immediately brought it to a close.

Among the business that would have been discussed was a presentation by Paul Shamoun of the Florida League of Cities who was to explain his group's pension services.

Other items that were scrubbed were --

• A scheduled discussion of proposed enhancements to the fire fighter pension plan;
• Revisions to the city's code relating to signs;
• Proposed changes related to the appointment of the special master who will decide on code violations;
• Approval to nominate a member to the Pinellas Planning Council, and
• Reappointment of members to the Planning Board and Board of Adjustment.

While three of the commissioners absented themselves, Arbutine sped back from an overseas trip to be on hand for the meeting.

Wags around City Hall were wondering if the truant members would have their pay docked.
