The green and white patrol car with the gold star driven by a deputy sheriff is a familiar site in Pinellas County. What most people don't see - is that each deputy on patrol is supported by hundreds of dedicated Pinellas County Sheriff's Office members working together as a team to provide the most professional and efficient law enforcement service available to the citizens and visitors to our community.

The Sheriff's overall jurisdiction includes those areas of the county that are unincorporated and, at present, 10 cities that contract with the Sheriff's Office for law enforcement service. Sheriff's deputies also assist and cooperate with law enforcement officers from other local, state and federal agencies on a daily basis.

There are services and programs offered only by the Sheriff's Office on a countywide basis. The Sheriff's Office operates the Pinellas County Jail, the only law enforcement Flight Section, the Sexual Predators and Offenders Tracking Unit (SPOT) and the Child Protection Investigation Division that reviews cases of child abuse and neglect countywide. The Sheriff also provides court security for the five county courthouses .

The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office has a staff of nearly 3,200 members working in four major bureaus, Patrol Operations, Investigative Operations, Support Services, and Detention & Corrections. The exceptional skills and expertise our members have demonstrated in their respective areas has earned national and international attention in law enforcement circles.

In future editions of this publication, we will discuss topics ranging from personal safety to law enforcement technology and community services. There are also opportunities for citizens to work with us through our volunteer programs, to enjoy presentations from our expert speakers, or become enrolled in our Sheriff's Citizen's Academy.

"Leading The Way For A Safer Pinellas" is our agency's vision statement. To support this vision we have developed strategies designed to improve the quality of life and safety for our citizens and as well as to foster partnerships to maintain these standards. We look forward to acquainting you with the many services and programs offered by the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office.
