BELLEAIR - Each year the Seminole/Largo Branch of the All Children's Hospital Guild hosts a number of events to raise monies for All Children's Hospital, but the Charity Golf Tournament at the Belleview Biltmore Golf Club is the group's biggest fundraiser of the year, coordinator Pat Maser advised last week. Over 200 persons turned out for the 13th annual tourney on October 28, she said. Some 40 volunteers from the Guild were also on hand to assist with registration and other details. A dinner for participants was scheduled that evening along with a silent auction.
The All Children's Hospital Guild was originally formed as a single organization in 1949. Today there are seven branches of the guild throughout this area. Two All Children's Hospital volunteers by the name of Wilma Fordham and Harriet DeLoach, who lived in Seminole at the time, founded the Seminole/Largo branch about 30 years ago. They recruited 12 members whose purpose was to publicize the hospital and get the community involved. Their very first event was a bazaar which took place at the home of one of the members. It brought in $500 for the hospital. Over the years, the branch has raised over half a million dollars for All Children's Hospital through various fundraisers.
The other branches of the Guild are the St. Petersburg Branch, St. Petersburg Beach Branch, Palm Harbor Branch, St. Petersburg Evening Group Branch, New Port Richey Branch and Sarasota Branch. Altogether, there are more than 600 guild members in the seven branches dedicated to assisting the All Children's Hospital Foundation by providing resources for children in need of the hospital's specialized services. Upcoming guild events in November include a walk-a-thon sponsored by the Beach Branch and a book fair hosted by the Evening Branch. Both branches are also hosting fashion shows in December. The Palm Harbor group is planning to hold a Christmas Cheer Basket Luncheon that month as well. Various individuals, groups, corporations and others also provide support to All Children's Hospital through various fundraisers.
The Seminole/Largo All Children's Hospital Guild is planning a special fundraising event in conjunction with the Seminole Pow Wow in March. It will feature a silent and live auction at the Seminole Recreation Center. For more information, you may call 480-9049.
