Losing it All to Sprawl

LARGO - Join award-winning author and documentary filmmaker Bill Belleville on Tuesday, November 7, at 7 p.m., in Room B of the Largo Public Library's Jenkins Community Wing, as he presents Losing it All to Sprawl: How Progress Ate My Cracker Landscape.

In Florida, one of the nation's fastest growing states, balancing use with preservation is an uphill battle. Sprawl spreads into the countryside, consuming not just natural lands but Old Florida neighborhoods and their unique history. Belleville shares his personal story of the battle for his rural landscape and places the experience in the context of Florida development. He accounts for the impacts of unsustainable growth, but also offers hope that can be found in the rediscovery and appreciation of the natural landscape.

The Florida Humanities Council presentation is free and open to the public. Call the library at 587-6715, ext. 2514 to register. The library is located at 120 Central Park Drive in Largo.
