Clearwater Main Street and the City of Clearwater will host the annual Cleveland Street Arts Stroll, Saturday, Nov. 18. The event will transform the sidewalks on either side of the Cleveland Street Streetscape construction zone into art exhibit space. The public is invited to the free event sponsored by the Downtown Development Board.
Construction is the theme for the 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. festival, which is between Osceola Avenue and Myrtle Avenue in downtown Clearwater. The event will feature interactive demonstrations and exhibits of area artists, a living sculpture, and live music. Drum circles will include construction materials and audience participation in a "Stomp" element.
Crews should be completing the current phase of work on the storm drain at the intersection of Cleveland Street and Osceola Avenue and opening the intersection by week's end. The intersection will remain open until after Thanksgiving. It will be closed again in January for streetscape construction. The Ft. Harrison Avenue intersection will be closed starting the last week of November for approximately three weeks. Extensive infrastructure work at that location will include installation of five drainage structures and three storm drain pipes that will cross Ft. Harrison Avenue.
Demolition work on the sidewalks and the street between Osceola and Ft. Harrison avenues has begun in preparation for reconstruction of that block. Sidewalks will be narrowed by the demolition but will remain open in both directions.
Downtown stakeholders are invited to the next Hard Hat meeting, 8 a.m., Thursday, November 30, Jack's Downtown Deli, 33 N. Garden Ave., in the rear of the Tower Building. Free coffee will be served.
Downtown construction information is available on the city's website at www.myclearwater.com/downtown, and questions can be addressed through the Streetscape construction office at 462-6126.
