Clearwater to Open Glen Oaks Park

CLEARWATER, Fla.- Clearwater will hold a grand opening ceremony for the new Glen Oaks Park and rededication of the David Martin Soccer Field, Nov. 30, 5:30 p.m., located at 1345 Court Street. Citizens are invited to celebrate this occasion with City officials and other members of the community.

The new Glen Oaks Park will serve two important purposes for the community including stormwater management and recreation. The 31.54-acre City-owned site contains five new ponds, four of which are wet detention and one dry detention area, totaling approximately 21 acres. The ponds will provide drainage and natural pollutant filtering. The new drainage will protect 78 homes from flooding and the Stevenson Creek Estuary will benefit from improved water quality. The new park has also created approximately 4.30 acres of vegetated wetland habitat.

Also included in the new park are many recreational opportunities including a trailhead for a future spur of the Pinellas Trail, a playground, pedestrian paths, bicycle trails, a restroom and vending shelter, observational decks and a gazebo. Glen Oaks Park is also home to the relocated David Martin Soccer Field. For more information, call (727) 562-4852.
