
CLEARWATER - A Boat Smart program for power boaters and sailors, to learn basic boating skills and seamanship sponsored by the Clearwater Sail & Power Squadron, will be held from 7:00 to 9:30 p.m., Mondays and Wednesdays, starting on November 27 and continuing through November 29, December 4, December 6, and ends on December 11, at the Clearwater Sail & Power Squadron building, 1000 Cleveland Street, in downtown Clearwater.
Instruction is free. Students pay $35 for the course manual and materials. (Additional students in the same family pay only $20 for an extra homework packet.) Ownership of a boat is not required to attend the course. The program covers Florida boating laws, rules of the road, navigation, safety equipment, basic knots, radio use, emergency procedures and general safety afloat. Participants with a grade of 80 percent or better qualify for a State Boat Operators License and eligibility for lower marine insurance rates.
