LARGO - Mary Black had cut the patterns. Lucille Jackson had taken on the task of sewing the angel gowns for fellow members of the Largo Woman's Club to wear in this year's Holiday Parade in Largo. Still others helped create the wings needed to complete the costumes. It all came together on December 2. Two members, Gloria Helms and Ellen Jensen, carried the group's banner, while six "Angels of the World"--Carol Miles, Addie Spicuzza, Hilda Palmer, Jean Bodtke, Rosemary LeMaire and Norma Steiner--rode in the bed of a decorated white truck. More "angels" waved from inside the vehicle driven by former Largo mayor Bob Jackson. They included Lucille Jackson, Jean Halvorsen and Mary Upton.
Following a busy fall, which also included a card party to raise funds for their charitable endeavors in the community and a Christmas party to kick off the holidays, the Largo Woman's Club is now ready for 2007. A business meeting is scheduled at the group's first luncheon of the new year on January 8 at the Highland Recreation Complex. Guest speaker will be Gerry DeTore of the Panama Canal Museum in St. Petersburg. Hostesses will be Emily Girard (chair), Norma Upton, Margie Linkchorst and Carolyn Leone.
The February 6 get-together of the club will feature a business meeting, followed by lunch and a performance by the Grandmother Rockettes at the Highland Recreation Complex. Hostesses are Eileen Marshall (chair), Mary Kruse, Leona McFadden and Bea Morgan. The Largo Woman's Club's annual fashion show/luncheon fundraiser will take place at Pinecrest Place on February 20. The public is invited to attend. Fashions will be presented by Gordiana of the Dress Barn. A drawing will be held for door prizes. Tickets are $15 per person.
Persons who have been members 10 years or more will be honored at the March 6 meeting at the Highland Recreation Complex. Author and humorist Pat Lorenz will address the group. Lorenz is known for her contributions to the "Chicken Soup for the Soul" books and "Guidepost" magazine. Topic of her talk will be "Humor for the Health of It". Luncheon hostesses are Sonia Herbert (chair), Jean Bereznoff, Mary Black and Virginia Connelly. Also coming up in March, on the 20th day of the month at the Palms of Largo, is the annual Membership Tea. New members and VIPs will be honored. Hostesses will be Lucille Jackson (chair), Peg Cameron, Alberta Maltby and Alice Murphy.
A special Easter program is planned at the Highland Recreation Complex on April 3. Chaplain Sue Moore will be the presenter. Hostesses for the luncheon are Jean Cramer (chair), Carmen Fusco, Sonia Herbert and Mary Buzolich. Another fundraiser is also slated that month. Tickets will be $10 per person for the Bonco Party. The following month, installation of officers for 2007-2008 is planned during a luncheon meeting at the Palms of Largo. Hostesses for the May 1 affair are Joy Sturgis (chair), Norma Steiner, Faye Wyatt, Marie York and Phyllis Shannon. The club's last gathering of 2006-2007 will be held at the Largo Library on May 22. A pizza party will follow the annual meeting.
All of the above meetings are scheduled at 11:30 a.m. New members are welcome. Residency in Largo is not required. For more information, you may call 505-8450 or 586-2011.
