CLEARWATER, Fla. - The City of Clearwater will hold a community meeting to discuss the proposed downtown boat slip project on Wednesday, Jan. 17 from 6-8 p.m. at the Harborview Center in downtown Clearwater. City staff and consultants will present renderings and animations of the project, market study, financial feasibility and rate studies, project details, and answer questions related to the boat slip project.

The proposed downtown boat slip project includes the following:

• 129-140 public boat slips on the downtown waterfront
• More than 1700 feet of overnight "side-tie" mooring for visitors
• More than 800 feet of free "side-tie" mooring for daytime visits and special events
• Renovations to the Drew Street Pier building for restrooms, showers, security office and laundry facilities
• Surface parking and landscaping improvements
• Landing for ferry service to the beach and commercial pickup/dropoff

Items that are not included:

• Permanent fencing along the waterfront or anywhere else in Coachman Park
• Permanent commercial tenants
• Fuel docks

Construction of the proposed boat slips will cost $11 million. A 20-year bond, paid back with revenues from slip rentals will pay the majority of the construction costs. Potential grants and contributions from the Downtown Development Board and the Community Redevelopment Agency will fund the remaining construction costs.
