Beach Walk Construction Update

provided by the City of Clearwater

Traffic has been moved to the west side of Coronado Drive where travelers now drive over freshly paved roadway. Although the road is mostly complete, drivers should remember that it is a construction zone and the speed limit is 20 miles per hour. Progress Energy installed decorative street lighting on the west side of Coronado Drive and will do the same on the east side. New curbs and sidewalks have been poured on the west side, and there is no parking on the east side of Coronado Drive. Trees will be planted beginning Feb. 12, and pavers will start going in Feb. 18. Southbound Coronado Drive is temporarily detoured onto Gulfview Boulevard for a few days to perform the 16-inch existing water main plug valve operation. Third Street is temporarily closed at Coronado Drive to complete the storm sewer on the east side, but access remains available from Hamden Drive.

The next Hard Hat Meeting is Tuesday, Feb. 13, 9 a.m. at the Clearwater Beach Recreation Center, 69 Bay Esplanade. The Beach Walk Celebration is Wednesday, Feb. 28, 9 a.m. at Pier 60 Park. Coronado Drive will be substantially complete by that date, and Nelson Construction Company of Palm Harbor, Fla. will be ready to begin work on the remaining phases of the project. The north end of Gulfview Boulevard will be closed shortly thereafter. Drivers will use Coronado Drive and Fifth Street to access the parts of Gulfview Boulevard that will remain open.
