Literacy Council of Upper Pinellas Announces Tutor Training Workshops

DUNEDIN - The Literacy Council of Upper Pinellas will hold tutor training workshops in the Community Room of the Dunedin Library, 223 Douglas Avenue in Dunedin on: February 13 from 6:30 to 8 p.m., and February 17, February 24 and March 3 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Anyone 18 years or older who is interested in volunteering to tutor someone in Basic Literary and/or English as a Second Language can become a tutor. The 20-hour workshop provides instruction in the Laubach Method of teaching how to read and speak. At the end of the workshop, tutors are certified as Laubach tutors and are assigned a student. Each potential tutor will receive books and other teaching materials so that he/she may begin working with a student as soon as assigned. Refreshments will be provided during the workshop sessions. Tutors must bring their lunch,
