CLEARWATER -- Recognizing the pursuit of excellence and commitment to continuous quality improvement, the Morton Plant Rehabilitation Center has been awarded the 2006 American Health Care Association's (AHCA) and the National Center for Assisted Living's (NCAL) Step I Quality Award.
The award is given to long term care facilities, including nursing facilities, assisted living facilities, and residential care facilities for the developmentally disabled, for applying continuous quality improvement principles to daily operations. The Morton Plant Rehabilitation Center is one of only three long term care centers in Florida to receive the AHCA/NCAL Step I Quality Award.
The Morton Plant Rehabilitation Center was evaluated by a team of three trained examiners who are long term care professionals. The team reviewed the center's strengths and opportunities for improvement. The criteria-based program focused on results and the conditions and processes that lead to results.
Morton Plant Rehabilitation located on the campus of Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater and part of Morton Plant Mease Health Care, is a 120-bed center offering comprehensive therapeutic care including physical, occupational, speech and recreational therapy along with skilled nursing. The center's nursing staff has earned the Magnet designation, the highest rating offered by the American Nurses Credentialing Center, the most prestigious national recognition of excellence in nursing care.
The AHCA/NCAL Quality Awards are comprised of three levels: the Step I award; a more rigorous Step II award; and a comprehensive Step III award. In 2006, 95 facilities in the United States were recognized with the Step I award and an additional 12 facilities received the Step II award.
