The Kiwanis Club of Springtime City in Clearwater is celebrating their 50th Year of Service and continues its long running Youth Service Project. Our community lost a great leader with the recent passing of Ed Wells, Jr. This Kiwanis club is excited to host Florida's best high school invitational track meet. For 44 years Ed was Meet Director and spearheaded the fundraising of hundreds of thousands of dollars to resurface the Clearwater High School track - in fact, four times! In 2005, the entire track was rebuilt to world class and Olympic standards valued at $250,000. Ed's vision and personal commitment to accomplish this for our community was remarkable. Kiwanis is honored to continue his legacy.
Throughout most of the years, around 30 High School boys' teams from the Tampa Bay area participated. Last year, two track meets were held for boys and girls teams on different days. This year, both boys and girls track meets will be held at the same time.
Kiwanis has the support of the Clearwater High School track coaches and Meet Director - Kiwanian Jim Ewbank. Boys and girls track teams from 16 Pinellas High Schools will be participating. Over 400 medals will be provided to the top eight places for each event. Trophies will be presented for 1st and 2nd place for both boys and girls teams, along with MVP awards for the top scoring boy and girl athletes.
Kiwanis is asking for community support as a Track Meet Program Advertiser or Event Sponsor to help defer the cost of the event and help support the club's 25 annual service projects. The deadline for printing purposes is March 10th. Please call 727-725-7549 or visit the club's website for more information.
