Construction on the Beach Walk project continues and all work will be done before Super Bowl 2009, which is also before Spring Break 2009. As in past years, spring breakers are here in Clearwater to enjoy the beach and beautiful weather.
Westra Construction finished the paving and striping of Hamden Drive. Those heading south from the roundabout must use Coronado Drive. For those going toward Sand Key, there are now two continuous lanes for southbound traffic on Coronado Drive that continue on Hamden Drive. Drivers who wish to access businesses and the parking lot on South Gulfview Boulevard should take Coronado Drive to Fifth Street and go west. Businesses along South Gulfview Boulevard are open and welcoming visitors. There is at least one lane for northbound traffic from Sand Key to Hamden Drive, to Coronado Drive, to the roundabout. Westra is installing sidewalks, streetlights and landscaping on Hamden Drive.
Phase II of the project is underway, and the north end of South Gulfview Boulevard is closed, starting at the intersection at Coronado Drive and going south to just past the Hyatt property. Nelson Construction is realigning the north end of South Gulfview Boulevard through the closed Pier 60 parking lot, and will be constructing wide promenades on both east and west sides of the new road.
Visit www.myclearwater.com/beachwalk for more information. A map that shows available parking facilities on the beach is posted. Another map details the maintenance of traffic (MOT) plan. The MOT is subject to change as necessary.
