Weekend yard sales may be fun, but the Saturday, March 31, Spring Plant Sale by the Pinellas County Master Gardeners promises excellent deals to delight garden lovers. Green thumbs can visit Pinellas County Extension between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. and snap up some great, greenery deals. Visitors should arrive early, as plants sell quickly. Pinellas County Extension is located at 12520 Ulmerton Road in Largo.
More than 100 types of plants are for sale including herbs, Florida natives and butterfly plants. A large selection of shrubs, trees and seeds will be available. Plants that bloom this time of year are featured. Identification signs will be posted to help visitors see what plants should look like full-grown.
Master Gardeners and Horticulturists from the Extension will offer free advice about plant species and landscaping. Educational displays will provide more information.
Due to the popularity of this event, the sale is being moved to a more convenient location on the Pinellas County Extension property. Visitors will find it easier to look at plants and a shorter walk to their cars. Bringing a wagon to carry the botanical beauties would be helpful, too. For more information about the plant sale, call (727) 582-2599.
Other March events on tap at Extension ?Also Saturdays in March, Pinellas County Extension offers other workshops to spread the word about composting, garden containers and rain barrels. Registration is required by calling (727) 582-2673.
On Saturday, March 24, from 9 to 10:30 a.m., a free Rain Barrel Workshop will demonstrate how to collect rainwater from the roof. Rain barrel painting demonstration and instruction follows from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Barrels available for purchase after workshop.
