Belleair Bluffs Voters Face Another Election to Fill Seat

BELLEAIR BLUFFS - Hold on, elections are not over yet in Pinellas County.

Belleair Bluffs has yet to pick another member of its City Commission.

Voters will make that choice April 24 between Hunt Brand, a former mayor and commissioner, and Joseph Barkley, who is new to elective politics in the city.

Bob Russo and Troy Krotz were returned to office in the March 13 election. That was a three-way race that included Wally Witham, a former commissioner, who ran last.

At the same time, Brand was holding a seat that had been vacated by Brett Nelson, who has moved to Georgia.

Nelson had left the commission and Brand was appointed to fill the post, pending a special election. That special election is set for April 24.

Once that election is decided, the winner will join Russo, Kroz, Mayor Chris Arbutine and Dave Shimkus on the commission.

The Belleair Bluffs Civic Association will hold a candidates night April 3 at 7 p.m. at the city hall to hear Brand and Barkley.
