LARGO - The Largo/Mid-Pinellas Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual "Salute to Education" luncheon featuring its Outstanding Teacher Awards on Tuesday, April 10, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., at the St. Petersburg College EpiCenter, 13805 58th Street N.
The event will include a presentation about the Centers of Excellence concept being developed for Pinellas County Schools. Featured speakers on the topic will include Robert McIntyre, chairman of the Pinellas Education Foundation. The Centers of Excellence concept has been collectively endorsed by the Pinellas County School Board and many education and business organizations including the Largo/Mid-Pinellas Chamber. It's intended to fundamentally change and improve the school system's approach to career education by aligning curriculum with local employment needs.
The luncheon, which will also feature the presentation of chamber scholarships to Largo High School seniors, is being presented by the chamber's Business/Education Partnership Committee. Cost is $18 for chamber members in advance and $20 for members and non-members the day of the event. Advanced registration is recommended as seats are limited.
