Construction on the Beach Walk project continues. Westra Construction is completing Phase I work as Nelson Construction works on Phases II, III and IV. Traffic is moving along the widened Coronado Drive. Drivers are asked to be cautious and obey the speed limit for the safety of workers and everyone in the area. Pedestrians are reminded to use crosswalks.
The Pier 60 parking lot is closed so that South Gulfview Boulevard can be realigned. Underground utility work there will continue to improve the infrastructure on Clearwater Beach. Workers from Progress Energy, Bright House, and Clearwater Gas are on site. Nelson Construction expects to complete their work in the Pier 60 parking lot at the end of May. When the lot reopens, it will have 154 parking spaces. South Gulfview Boulevard is completely closed starting at the intersection with Coronado Drive and going south to just past the Hyatt property.
Drivers who wish to access businesses and the parking lot on South Gulfview Boulevard should take Coronado Drive to Fifth Street and go west. South Gulfview Boulevard is open to local traffic only.
Spring Break officially ends April 9, but visitors will continue to frequent Clearwater Beach, which is as beautiful as ever. Clearwater Beach Patrol provides supervision 365 days a year on the beachfront.
The targeted completion date for the Beach Walk project is before Super Bowl 2009. Visit www.myclearwater.com/beachwalk for more information.
