Many Spring Break visitors have gone home and as a result, traffic on the beach is lighter. The beach is open and as beautiful as ever. Westra Construction workers are wrapping up work on Phase I of Beach Walk. Work on Third Street will be complete by the end of this week. This Friday, workers will move to Fifth Street. While milling work is being done on the north side of Gulfview, there is still one lane of traffic open in each direction.
Phase II work by Nelson Construction is underway with workers centered in the now closed Pier 60 parking lot. South Gulfview Boulevard is completely closed starting at the intersection with Coronado Drive and going south to just past the Hyatt property. Nelson workers expect to finish their work in the Pier 60 parking lot by the end of May. At that time, the Pier 60 parking lot will reopen with a new approach into it. Soon after that, some of the parking spaces in the north end of the Gulfview parking lot will be removed. This will be necessary as South Gulfview Boulevard is realigned.
Drivers who wish to access businesses and the parking lot on South Gulfview Boulevard should take Coronado Drive to Fifth Street and go west. South Gulfview Boulevard is open to local traffic only.
The next Hard Hat Meeting is 9:15 a.m., Tuesday, May 1, at the Gulfview Resort, 521 South Gulfview Boulevard.
The targeted completion date for the Beach Walk project is before Super Bowl 2009. Visit www.myclearwater.com/beachwalk for more information.
