CLEARWATER - The YMCA of the Suncoast will host two catch-and-release fishing events in April to benefit the Clearwater Branch YMCA annual giving campaign.
The "YMCA Kids Fishing Rodeo" for children age 6-12 will take place on Saturday, April 28, at Pier 60, Clearwater Beach, from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. Check-in will be from 8-9 a.m. Each participating child will receive a fishing pool, bait, and T-shirt. Children must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian over the age of 18. Free refreshments and lunch will be served.
Completed entry form and payment must be received by April 25. There are only 300 spots available. The fee is $10 per child; free for YMCA scholarship recipients.
The sixth annual "YMCA Clearwater Flats Fishing Classic", designed for adults and more serious anglers, will take place on Friday, April 20, from 6 a.m. - 1 p.m. The competitive event will begin with a captain's party hosted by Carlouel Yacht Club on Thursday, April 19, at 5:30 p.m. They party will feature a buffet dinner, live and silent auction and live entertainment. Anglers will receive their instructions, measuring boards, cameras, film and YMCA gift bags.
The catch-and-release tournament will cover Florida's West Central Coast waters in four divisions: Amateur Adult Male, Amateur Adult Female, Jr. Fisherman and Professional Guide.
Targeted fish are Snook, Redfish and Trout. First, second and third place will be awarded in each of the three categories.
The entry fee is $100 per angler. Corporate boats with guides are available.
