Scholarships Awarded by Local Sons of Italy Chapter

CLEARWATER - Two local high school students were awarded scholarships from the Daughters of Italy Lodge #2825, a local chapter of the Order Sons of Italy in America (OSIA), the nation's oldest and largest organization for men and women of Italian heritage.

Ryan Pires, the son of Joseph and Janice Pires, is graduating in June from Palm Harbor University High School. He plans on entering the University of Florida in the fall with a major in chemical engineering. Ryan received the $1000 Daughters of Italy Lodge #2825 Scholarship.

Calder Fiore Goc is the daughter of Nicole Fiore and the late Zenon Goc, a military pilot killed in the line of duty. Graduating in June from Clearwater High School, Calder has been accepted to the officer training program of the United States Air Force Academy, with a major in pre-med. Calder was the recipient of the $1000 Daughters of Italy Lodge #2825 (in Memoriam of Filomena Genovese) Scholarship.

Both students will be recognized with Certificates of Excellence and Dante Medals to be presented to them on Tuesday, May 22, at the lodge's general meeting.
