CLEARWATER - Dr. Susan MacManus, Distinguished Professor at the University of South Florida Department of Government and International Affairs, will give a presentation on municipal government forms and governance trends throughout Florida cities in a Clearwater Charter Review Committee meeting Thursday, May 24, 2:30 p.m., at the Clearwater Main Library.
A change to Clearwater's current council/manager form of government is among the possible amendments under the Charter Review Committee's consideration. Dr. MacManus has been invited to discuss the pros and cons of possible alternative government forms with committee members.
The public is welcomed to attend and see the academic presentation. The Charter Review Committee will hold a public hearing at a later date to receive public comment.
The Charter Review Committee is a group of citizens periodically appointed by the City Council to examine the provisions in the city charter and recommend changes. The current Charter Review Committee convened in January and is expected to make its recommendations later this year. The City Council will review the recommendations, and those that are accepted will appear on the March 2008 ballot.
