Fire/Rescue Extrication Challenge This Weekend

CLEARWATER - Clearwater Fire & Rescue and the Suncoast Extrication Coalition are hosting the 2007 Florida Regional Extrication Challenge this weekend.

Don't miss this unique opportunity to see the cutting edge techniques of vehicle extrication. Extrication is more than just simply popping off a car door. Firefighters are specially trained in hydraulic rescue tools, stabilizing the vehicle, and protecting, stabilizing, and treating a patient.

Although there won't be any real patients at this event, you will get to see how extrication happens while some of the finest firefighting teams compete.

The event will be held on Thursday and Friday: 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., and Saturday: 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. in the parking lot of the Harborview Center at the foot of Cleveland Street in downtown Clearwater.

Kids Fun & Safety Day will also be held on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Activities will include fire hose spray, face painting, and displays of a Sunstar Ambulance, Pinellas County Sheriff's vehicles and Clearwater Fire and Rescue trucks.
