(Since this article was first written the population figures are higher than those stated.)
God's first marriage command was "Be fruitful, and multiply and replenish the earth." After the great flood He again gave the same instructions. Nowhere in Church history do we find an opposite view. In earlier Jewish history we learn that the Egyptians were afraid of too many Jewish children being born. They tried to have the midwives kill all of their male children. Which is probably the first recorded infanticide. When that failed they tried to subjugate them through hard work. This only made them a hardier people.
We don't see the people who advocate fewer people on the earth going out and eliminating themselves to help solve the alleged overpopulation problem. Nope! Like the Egyptians of old they want to help solve the problem by killing the poor helpless babies. Of course they also recommend that something can be done about all these useless, sickly, old people as well.
Is the world facing the threat of overpopulation? No! Actually, the world is comparatively empty. There are 52.5 million square miles of land area in the world, not including Antarctica. If all the people in the world were brought together into one place, they could stand, without touching anyone else, in less than 200 miles.
The city limits of Jacksonville, Florida contain 841 square miles. Each square mile contains 27,878,400 square feet. The total number of square feet in the city is 23,445,734,400. The world population is five billion people. By allowing an average of 2.6 square feet for each person from babies to adults, every person in the world could stand shoulder to shoulder in just over half of the city.
A further fallacy in the population explosion myth is the assumption that the greater the population the lower the standard of living. This is not true. Japan has a population density of 798 people per square mile, yet they have a higher per capita gross national product ($4,450) than India, which has 511 people per square mile ($140). China has a population density of 232 persons per square mile. West Germany has 636 per square mile. The United Kingdom has 593 per square mile, and the U.S. has only 660 people per square mile.
Robert Sassone in his handbook on Population, says, "If you look at a population density map, you would find that most square miles of land in the world have less than one family living in them. Many Americans crowd into cities and assume the whole United States and the whole world are like their city.
If large families sound unusual or inappropriate to us, it is only because we have been influenced by the deceptive philosophies of humanism. Humanists have carried on a persistent propaganda campaign to convince nations that the world is overpopulated and has dwindling natural resources.
It is presumed that with so many people in the world that this causes starvation. Actually false religious beliefs such as cattle being sacred, and refusing to utilize them for food as God has instructed, and not being used to feed the hungry contributes to the problem.
These overpopulation assertions are total myths and are very destructive since they provide the rationalization for abortion, sterilization, infanticide, euthanasia, and suicide.”
