BELLEAIR BLUFFS - The City Commission routinely set up a charter review committee at its meeting Monday night. The panel will be headed by Troy Krotz and will include Debra Sullivan, the city clerk, Robert David, the public works director, and two residents, Paul Kuykendall and Rania Badacchia.
As a follow-up to the special election in April, Hunt Brand was sworn in as a commission member. He has been serving on an appointed basis since Brett Nelson left.
Brand is a former mayor and was also on the commission previously.
The commission approved an ordinance that exempts public emergency vehicles from the law barring the parking of commercial vehicles.
An ordinance that addressed the criteria for materials to be used in constructing low pitched roofs was postponed for the purpose of getting more information.
While Belleair Bluffs, like every other city in Florida is awaiting to hear what Tallahassee is going to do with tax reform, which won't be known until well into next month, the city has laid out its calendar for budget discussions.
At a July 9 workshop, a tentative millage rate will be set with confirmation of the rate on July 16. The proposed budget for fiscal year 2008 will be established at a meeting August 13 then come public hearings on the proposed millage rate and tentative budget on September 10 and September 18.
