That's Sports

by T.R. FAHY

Had enough baseball, football and basketball? Let's take a quick look at some other sports:

-- Rock, Paper, Scissors champ Lou Liberatore, when asked how he felt after winning the NYC regionals: "Like the biggest jerk on the planet."

-- 2016 Olympic hopeful host L.A. has bragged that the only sport they don't already have a venue is shooting. Silly people, they forgot about their freeways.

-- The North American Wife Carrying Championship was held in Newry, Maine, a while back. Winner was the team of John and Tess Farra. Their prize? Five times Tess' weight in cash ($675).

-- We salute Trevon Jenifer, not merely another high school wrestler. Born without legs, he completed a 31-1 record with a third place finish in the Maryland state tournament.

-- A few weeks ago, the West Indies held the 2007 Cricket World Cup featuring not only crickets but fruit flies, worms and grasshoppers from 19 nations. Founding chairman Jiminy Cricket predicted steroid testing was possible next year.

-- According to animal behavior specialist Bernie Embler, body fleas always jump to the north.

-- Tennis legend Andre Agassi cried when announcing his retirement and wife Steffie continues to call him a "sissy".

-- Did you know before each game, hockey great Wayne Gretzky drank a Diet Coke, water, Gatorade, another Diet Coke and ate four hot dogs?

-- Several Ukrainian World Cup players blamed their 4-0 loss to Spain on lack of sleep caused by croaking frogs that lived outside their hotel ... Paris Hilton is now the second most overpaid person in L.A. Pele couldn't popularize major league soccer, pretty boy David ($250 mil) Beckham certainly won't ... How about those eight members of the Vancouver under 15 boys soccer team suspended for chasing the referee?

-- Keep an eye out for golf's next big thing, 7-year-old Reece Campbell from Newmills, Scotland. He wears his golf glove to bed. His teddy bear is a 7-iron and he recorded his 1st ace at age 5. His daily allowance is 50 cents. Said Reece: "When I first meet Tiger, I'll ask him who his favorite Power Ranger is."

-- And finally, Shirley Bahner asks what's green and red and goes 50 mph? Answer: a frog in a blender.
