Blanket Amnesty for Illegal Aliens is Irresponsible

By Woodrow Wilcox

President Bush and some Senators and Congressmen are working to give blanket amnesty to millions of illegal aliens. That is irresponsible.

Each illegal alien must be found and screened before any amnesty should be considered. The lives of millions of legal immigrants and Americans depend on it.

How many illegal immigrants are members of criminal or terrorist organizations? No one knows because the federal government has failed to fence and guard our borders and screen every person who enters our country.

When President Bush, Senators, and Congressmen claim that they care about the safety of America and Americans, but then don't fence and guard our borders and screen every immigrant, they are hypocrites.

For years, illegal aliens have not been screened. Many illegal aliens pay "coyote" guides to get them into the country and act as "mules" for the coyotes to carry illegal drugs or other items into the country. The illegal alien business is a big business that is tainted with other illegal trafficking. These "mule" illegal aliens could be bringing weapon materials into our country. But, President Bush and some Senators and Congressmen want to give these illegal aliens amnesty. Do you see the hypocrisy of these leaders?

America has a history of screening immigrants. Tens of thousands of immigrants came to Ellis Island, but thousands were sent back to their native lands. If Ellis Island immigration officers suspected that an alien was not physically, mentally, or emotionally able to be self sustaining, the alien's application would be rejected and the alien would be sent home.

Today, illegal aliens are not screened to determine any ability to be self sufficient. In fact, the buffet of welfare and medical benefits from federal, state, and local governments entices illegal immigrants who are not self sufficient to come here.

Many illegal aliens have criminal records and violent tendencies. Our jails our crowded with violent illegal aliens. When I did research for my doctoral thesis in 1979, I learned that United Nations statistical records showed that Mexico's homicide rate was almost triple the homicide rate of the U.S.A. People who come from a more violent culture should be screened more carefully to prevent an increase in violent crime in the U.S.A. But, President Bush and Congressmen and Senators who support open borders and blanket amnesty for illegal aliens don't want to screen illegal aliens carefully! That is irresponsible!
