A fledgling group of community-minded volunteers will hold its first classic car show to benefit local schools, municipal services, and other charitable causes.
The Rotary Club of East Lake Sunrise will host the show at John Chestnut Sr. County Park in Palm Harbor, Florida on June 16, from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. Under the many shade trees on beautiful Lake Tarpon, the Rotarians will showcase award-winning pre-1977 cars and other historic vehicles, such as antique fire engines and police cars.
The Rotary Club is working with Q105 and Bay News 9 to publicize the event, which will raise money for local schools, the East Lake Fire Department, and other local charities. Marvelous Marvin, of Q105, will be the celebrity D. J., playing hits from the 1960s, 70s and 80s, while the United Cruisers of Tampa Bay and the Downshifters of Brooklyn car clubs will provide registration, judging and fundraising support. The show is free to the public and will offer barbecued foods, raffles and prizes as well.
"Our members will absorb the cost of putting on the show, so that 100 percent of what the public donates goes right back to the community," said Larry Liebling, the club's charter president and car show director. The club is seeking sponsors, who will be recognized at the event and on the Rotary Club's website, Liebling said.
