Beach Walk Construction Update

provided by the City of Clearwater

The newly landscaped Pier 60 parking lot is now open with 133 spaces available. Eventually the lot will have 152 spaces, but 19 spaces on the western edge of the lot are closed for construction purposes.

A new traffic signal is operating at Coronado Drive and Gulfview Boulevard to help vehicles leaving the parking lot. Nelson Construction performed stabilization, road base and asphalt work for the new Gulfview Boulevard connection to Coronado Drive. Nelson is also working on the hike and bike trail flatwork beginning in the Pier 60 parking lot and going south.

On Thursday, June 7, the north end of the South Gulfview parking lot will close and 108 spaces will be unavailable. At the south end of this parking lot, there are still 183 spaces available.

For safety reasons, pedestrians can access South Clearwater Beach only from Pier 60, or from south of the Barefoot Beach House. Second Street access to the beach is no longer available. This will continue during the remainder of Phase II construction.

Phase I of Beach Walk is essentially complete and the traffic on Coronado Drive is moving as planned. The targeted completion date for substantially completing the Beach Walk project is before Super Bowl 2009. Visit www.myclearwater.com/beachwalk or call 562-4681 for more information.
