Subject: The Way I See It Column
I was shocked to read the column in the May 24 paper in which you take on Jimmy Carter. The shocking part was when you admitted that "both Carter and Bush will go down in history as mediocre Presidents; in fact, maybe two of our worst."
This comes from a man who has defended George Bush many times in the past few years when other people, especially Democrats, criticized him. I am a Republican, and I admit I voted for Bush in 2000, but not in 2004. I have wished many times that I would have voted for Al Gore in 2000. Maybe if several thousand of Floridians had voted for Gore, we wouldn't be in the mess we are in. Bush has spent over $500 BILLION, working on $ 1 TRILLION, for Iraq and
Afghanistan, and what has it gotten us.
Think how much that money would buy helping our own citizens, securing our borders, improving or national park system, building new highways, etc.., and especially coming up with alternative fuels so that we would not be dependent on the Arabs for oil.
I am not impressed at all with the front runners in BOTH parties for the upcoming national election. We will probably end up with another George Bush or Jimmy Carter.
