Beach Walk Construction Updateprovided by the City of ClearwaterNelson Construction continues work on Phase II of Beach Walk on the north end of South Gulfview Boulevard. Now that the Pier 60 parking lot is open, the north end of the South Gulfview parking lot is closed. There are still 183 spaces available there and 133 spaces in the Pier 60 parking lot. The temporary parking lots located on the west side of Coronado Drive remain open with 98 spaces. For safety reasons, pedestrians can access South Clearwater Beach only from Pier 60, or from south of the Barefoot Beach House. This will continue during the remainder of Phase II construction. South Gulfview Boulevard remains closed to traffic from Coronado Drive to First Street. Those wishing to access businesses on South Gulfview Boulevard can go north from Fifth Street. Stores and restaurants are open and welcoming customers. Sea turtle nesting season began May 1st and continues through October 31st. Because newly hatched turtles find their way to the sea by following the natural light reflected from the water, specific lighting requirements are being followed in parking lots, on streets, and on the future walking and biking promenade. The promenade is already beginning to take shape, starting at the Pier 60 parking lot and going south. Visitors to Clearwater Beach who discover an unmarked turtle nest should notify the Clearwater Marine Aquarium at 441-1790, extension 224. There will be no Hard Hat meeting in July. The targeted date for substantially completing the Beach Walk project is before Super Bowl 2009. Visit www.myclearwater.com/beachwalk or call 562-4681 if you have questions. |
