Cleveland Street Streetscape Updateprovided by the City of Clearwater
The second block of the Cleveland Street streetscape is nearing completion, and a block opening ceremony and celebration will be held 3 p.m., June 15 on Cleveland Street between Ft. Harrison and Garden avenues. The public is invited to attend the event, explore the newly completed block and support downtown businesses that are open during construction. Working Cow Ice Cream and Tony's Pizzeria & Ristorante will offer free samples, participating merchants will provide giveaways and the city will be distributing specially labeled chocolate bars with coupons for downtown restaurants. The remaining blocks of the project are also progressing. Demolition for the streetscaping work between Garden and East avenues is underway, and crews are preparing to install water and utility lines that will run under the roadway. The distinctive colored concrete in the center of the intersection at Garden Avenue and Cleveland Street has been poured and crews are working on the remaining sidewalk pavers and other amenities for the intersection. The intersection is the third of five to be renovated as part of the streetscape project. Cleveland Street is open to traffic between the bluff and Ft. Harrison Avenue, but remains closed from Ft. Harrison Avenue to East Avenue. The Garden Avenue intersection is expected to be closed to north and southbound traffic for approximately another two weeks, although all other intersections are open. Pedestrians may use sidewalks on the south side of the street near the Station Square Condominium construction site as the north sidewalk there remains closed. Patrons may take advantage of two hours of free parking in the Garden Avenue Garage, additional parking along Osceola Avenue between the Main Library and Cleveland Street, and designated parking spaces on Cleveland Street from Osceola to Ft. Harrison avenues. For further updates on construction, check out the city's website at www.myclearwater.com/downtown, or call the Streetscape construction office at 462 6126. The next Hard Hat meeting is 8 a.m., Thursday, June 28, at Cleveland Street Café, 615 Cleveland St. Free coffee will be available, and officials will be on hand to answer the public's questions regarding the project. |
