Beach Walk Construction Updateprovided by the City of ClearwaterNelson Construction continues work on Phase II of Beach Walk on the north end of South Gulfview Boulevard. Asphalt paving has been removed from the north end of the South Gulfview parking lot. The Pier 60 Parking lot is open and access to the beach is from the northwest corner of the lot. Pedestrians can also access South Clearwater Beach from south of the Barefoot Beach House. The north end of South Gulfview Boulevard remains closed. Traffic heading south from the roundabout must use newly widened Coronado Drive. From Coronado Drive, take Fifth Street to access South Gulfview Boulevard. Stores and businesses remain open and accessible during construction. The sand and seat wall that will border the new promenade is already taking shape, from the Pier 60 parking lot south. Clearwater Beach remains a strong tourist destination during construction. The Clearwater Beach Chamber of Commerce, the Greater Clearwater Regional Chamber of Commerce, and the St. Petersburg/Clearwater Convention and Visitors Bureau are working to ensure that visitors understand and look forward to the changes that Beach Walk will bring. The beach is open and as beautiful as ever. Westra Construction is wrapping up work on Phase I, including the seawall at Third and Fifth Streets. Crews are finishing the sod on the back of the sidewalk, small sections of curb, and asphalt tie-ins from the new work to private property. There will be no Hard Hat meeting in July. The targeted date for substantially completing the Beach Walk project is before Super Bowl 2009. Visit www.myclearwater.com/beachwalk or call 562-4681 if you have questions. |
