Cleveland Street Streetscape Update

provided by the City of Clearwater

Streetscape crews prepare the roadbed for the third block of the project while renovation proceeds on the old Peninsular Telephone Company building at the corner of Garden Avenue and Cleveland Street.

Work is progressing eastward on the Cleveland Street Streetscape project that contractors report is now about 75 percent complete. With two blocks and three intersections of the project complete, motorists can now travel east and westbound on the new asphalt from Garden Avenue to the bluff.

Cleveland Street is closed from Garden to East avenues as crews are busy working on this block, grading the new roadway and preparing forms for street curbs. The work is expected to take approximately 12 weeks and the roadway will be closed to traffic during this time. One lane of traffic is open in each direction from East to Myrtle avenues, although caution is advised due to lane shifts.

The sidewalk is still closed on the north side of Cleveland Street in front of the Station Square Condominium construction site although sidewalks on the south side of Cleveland Street in that block remain open. A pedestrian tunnel in front of the tower is expected to be constructed next month when new sidewalks on the north side of the street are also installed.

Patrons may take advantage of two hours of free parking in the Garden Avenue Garage, additional parking along Osceola Avenue between the Main Library and Cleveland Street, and designated parking spaces on Cleveland Street from Osceola to Ft. Harrison avenues. For further updates on construction, check out the city's website at www.myclearwater.com/downtown, or call the Streetscape construction office at 462 6126.

The next Hard Hat meeting is 8 a.m., Thursday, June 28, at Cleveland Street Café, 615 Cleveland St. Free coffee will be available, and officials will be on hand to answer the public's questions regarding the project.
