- At a free Dynamic Dragonflies Program Saturday, July 21, from 1 to 2:30 p.m., discover how dragonflies travel, eat and make more dragonflies. You will get to know more about these dragonflies that provide a dazzling spectacle of color and aerobatics. Live dragonflies may attend and take part in this program. - At a free Adaptation Celebration with Tampa's Lowry Park Zoo educators Saturday, July 28, from 1 to 2 p.m., discover the amazing diversity of animal adaptations. Explore why some animals have feathers, some have fur, others have long legs and some carry their young in a pouch. They are all adapted to make the best of the places in which they live. This celebration is great for the entire family, but please register by calling (727) 453-6800.
- At a Worm Composting Made Simple Workshop, Sunday, July 29, from 1 to 2 p.m., learn how to put worms to work turning your food scraps into a rich fertilizer that your plants will love. You will discover how to set up and maintain a worm composting bin. A ready-to-use plastic bin complete with worms and bedding and the guidebook, Worms Eat Our Garbage, will be included in the $15 fee per person or family. - At a free Movie Night on Wednesday, July 25, from 7 to 8 p.m., watch The Ecological Footprint: Accounting for a Small Planet. This 30-minute film explores the current global situation and demonstrates ways that governments, communities and businesses are working to live more sustainably. Join in after the program to participate in a discussion and receive tips about reducing your personal footprint on Earth's natural resources. Register by calling (727) 453-6800.
- Get involved in the free Great Naturalists Reading Series through a partnership between the East Lake Community Library and Brooker Creek Preserve held the third Thursday of each month. On Thursday, July 19, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., learn about three of Florida's most important historical women: Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings, Marjorie Harris Carr and Marjory Stonemen Douglas. These three remarkable women instilled in others a deep appreciation and strong sense of responsibility for Florida's natural heritage. Adults should register by calling (727) 453-6800.
