Local Triathlete Wins First Pro Race at Morton Plant Mease Triathlon

CLEARWATER - More than 800 athletes - including nationally ranked athletes - took part in the second annual Morton Plant Mease Triathlon held at Sand Key Park in Clearwater.

In his very first triathlon competing as a professional, Marc Bonnet-Eymard, age 36, of Winter Garden took first place with a time of 57:06. In first place for the women was another Floridian - Stephanie Liles, age 35, of Tallahassee with a time of 1:09:24. A prize purse of $4,000 was distributed to the top five male and female finishers.

The oldest triathlete was 86. The youngest was 13. Athletes swam 1/3 of a mile in the Gulf of Mexico, biked 13 miles over the Sand Key, Memorial Causeway and Belleair Causeway bridges, and ran 3.1 miles.
