Cleveland Street Streetscape Updateprovided by the City of Clearwater
Progress on the third block of the Cleveland Street streetscape continues as completion of the entire project nears 80 percent. The first layer of asphalt has been installed on the roadway between Garden and East avenues and Gibbs and Register crews are preparing forms to pour concrete for the median curbs. Electrical conduits are being installed from Garden Avenue through Station Square to East Avenue and irrigation work for the median planters is underway. Cleveland Street remains open in all sections of the streetscape project except the block between Garden and East avenues where streetscape work is still underway. The south sidewalk is open in that block where pedestrians are urged to remain outside the orange construction fences. Pedestrians should also be cautious in areas where the old pavers and sidewalk have been removed and the sidewalk surface is uneven. Motorists are reminded to observe the new traffic rules that are now in effect throughout the completed portions of the project. No right turn signs are posted at Fort Harrison Avenue and Cleveland Street for eastbound travelers, no u-turn signs are at Cleveland Street and Osceola Avenue for westbound travelers and no trucks are allowed through downtown on Cleveland Street. Patrons may take advantage of two hours of free parking in the Garden Avenue Garage, additional parking along Osceola Avenue between the Main Library and Cleveland Street, and designated parking spaces on Cleveland Street from Osceola to Ft. Harrison avenues. For further updates on construction, check out the city's website at www.myclearwater.com/downtown, or call the Streetscape construction office at 462 6126. The next Hard Hat meeting is 8 a.m. August 30. Location is TBA. City and construction officials plan to be on hand to answer the public's questions regarding the project. |
